Couples Therapy
& Relationship Counselling
in North Bay

Relationship & couples therapy at O.W.L. Counselling & Wellness is for partners — at any stage, in any structure — who want their relationship to feel like a team again. We work with couples in-person at our North Bay and Huntsville offices and virtually across Ontario.

“We work in a way that’s Own. Willful. Living. Helping you make conscious, value-aligned choices rather than running on autopilot or
other people’s expectations.”

When These Are Showing Up in Your Relationship

  • The same conflict keeps surfacing — different topic,
    same loop.

  • One or both of you avoids hard conversations to
    "keep the peace."

  • You feel more like roommates or co-parents than partners.

  • Trust was damaged — by infidelity, finances, dishonesty, or addiction — and you don't know how to come back from it.

  • A major life transition (moving, kids, a new job, illness, a grief) has left the relationship strained.

  • Sex and intimacy have changed and neither of you knows how to talk about it.

  • One or both of you is asking, quietly, whether you should
    still be together.

  • You're both willing to try, but something keeps getting in the way.

Couples Therapy
Can Help You

  • Communicate without the fight: break out of the same argument on repeat.

  • Repair after a breach of trust: rebuild safety at a pace that works for both partners.

  • Reconnect emotionally and physically: close the distance that's grown without naming itself.

Couples Therapy & Relationship Counselling
in North Bay

“You still love each other. But something's changed.”

Maybe conversations turn into arguments faster than they used to. Maybe the silences are getting longer. Maybe trust took a hit. Or maybe you just want to feel close again and don't know how to bridge the gap. Couples don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy, and the partners who come in before it gets bad are the ones who often see the biggest change.

Relationship & couples therapy at O.W.L. Counselling & Wellness is for partners — at any stage, in any structure — who want their relationship to feel like a team again. We work with couples in-person at our North Bay and Huntsville offices and virtually across Ontario.

What Is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy is a structured space for partners to look at the patterns in your relationship — what's working, what isn't, and what's underneath the surface — with a therapist who is not on either of your "sides." It's not about who's right or wrong. It's about understanding the cycle the two (or more) of you keep getting stuck in, and building real tools to step out of it.

We work in a way that's Own. Willful. Living.  We help each partner make conscious, values-aligned choices about how they show up in the relationship, rather than running on old scripts.

Our Approach to Relationship Care

Our approach is empathetic, collaborative, and deeply attuned to the unique dynamic between you. We hold space for all partners to feel seen, validated, and respected. Therapy at OWL is trauma-informed and anti-oppressive to honour each partner's history, identity, and the specific dynamics that shape your connection.

Depending on what you're working on, your therapist may draw from:

  • Gottman-informed approaches: practical tools for communication, conflict, and the "Sound Relationship House."
(We are Gottman-informed; ask your therapist about their specific training during the consultation.)

  • Attachment-based work: making sense of how earlier attachment experiences show up in current closeness, conflict, and trust.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) for couples: exploring the parts of each partner that surface in conflict
(the protector, the wounded part, the inner critic).

  • Motivational Interviewing: useful when one partner is more ambivalent about change or the relationship itself.

  • Trauma-informed care: especially when infidelity, abuse, addiction, or grief is in the picture.

We focus on helping you break negative cycles, rebuild trust, and develop practical tools for lasting growth, not just feel heard for an hour and leave.

What Couples
Therapy Supports

  • The same fight, in different clothes. We help you map the actual cycle including what triggers it, what each of you does next, what each of you is really reacting to underneath. Then together we build tools to interrupt it earlier.

  • Marriage counselling at OWL focuses on the patterns that have built up over years such as resentments, unspoken expectations, parallel lives, division of labour, blended-family dynamics, and the slow drift that can happen when neither partner names it.

  • Infidelity work is some of the most delicate work we do. We move at a pace that gives both partners safety. both the partner who was hurt, and the partner who hurt them. Importantly, we don't push reconciliation as the only valid outcome.

  • Working through values, finances, family expectations, and how you'll handle the inevitable hard moments before you're in them, is one of the highest-leverage things you can do for your relationship.

  • Parenting partners, separated co-parents, and blended families will find help aligning on the parenting front while protecting each adult's individual capacity.

  • Mismatched desire, post-trauma intimacy, sex-positive exploration, and rebuilding physical closeness after distance.

Communication & Conflict Patterns

Depression isn’t always tears, sometimes it’s numbness, exhaustion, irritability, or going through the motions. Depression counselling at OWL focuses on what’s underneath, not just symptom management.

Depression

ADHD counselling helps adults, teens, and children make sense of their brain, build systems that actually work, and untangle the years of shame that often come with it. Multiple OWL therapists specialize in ADHD, and we hold space for both formally diagnosed and self-identifying clients.

Marriage Counselling & Long-Term Partnerships

Inclusive & Diverse Relationships

OWL welcomes clients from all walks of life and is committed to anti-oppressive, affirming care.

2SLGBTQ+ Affirming Couples Therapy

We are listed on Rainbow Health Ontario and provide identity-affirming therapy for queer, trans, and 2SLGBTQ+ couples. Aaron Sinclair has 18+ years of experience supporting 2SLGBTQ+ clients and brings deep familiarity with the specific challenges queer relationships navigate — from in-laws to coming out at different paces, from chosen family dynamics to the impact of broader social pressure on the couple itself.

Polyamory, Ethical
Non-Monogamy & Relationship Anarchy

If you've been searching for a therapist who actually understands consensual non-monogamy (CNM), polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, or relationship anarchy, you've found one. We work with multi-partner constellations, hierarchical and non-hierarchical structures, and couples opening up — without pathologizing the relationship structure itself.

Diverse Power Dynamics & Intersectional Identities

We honour the way race, culture, neurodivergence, disability, immigration history, and other intersecting identities shape what gets brought into the relationship and the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. If something has been bothering you for a while, or if you keep running into the same wall in different relationships or seasons of life, therapy is a reasonable place to look.

  •  It varies. Some people see meaningful change in 6–10 sessions, especially with clear, focused goals (e.g. anxiety symptom management). Trauma, longer-standing patterns, and complex grief usually take longer. Your therapist will check in regularly about how the work is going.

  • We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.

  • You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

  • We offer flexible pricing based on project type and complexity. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs.

  • Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
